Why I chose to practice Iyengar Yoga

In 2019, while travelling in Southeast Asia, I attended a yoga class. Afterwards, I approached the teacher and asked how I could learn the basics, since I felt like I was missing the answers to: what should I feel in this asana? What should I hold? What should I release?

She told me to wait for her, she’d pick me up early the next morning. Sure enough, we rode a small Vespa to a nearby studio that taught Iyengar Yoga. We practised seven asanas in two hours, focused on how to align the joints correctly in each. I felt more alive than I ever had, and I knew I’d found something I wanted to study and practise further.

I’ve kept practising since, became part of the Iyengar Yoga community and passed the assessment for Iyengar Yoga Level I certified teacher in 2024. I want to give more students a practice they enjoy, one that brings health to body and mind.
